Enrollment

At Life Skills Academy, our classrooms are diverse and unique due to the nature of our student body. To ensure we are the right match for your child, LSA uses a three-step admissions process. Each applicant must successfully pass all three stages before an enrollment offer is made.

Our goal is to maintain safe, effective classrooms that meet the needs of all students. To do that, we have to be selective, because every child deserves the "right fit".

Our 3-Step Admissions Process

Step 1 – Intake & Initial Screening

You’ll begin by calling the school at (863) 800-0755 to provide intake information about your child’s diagnosis and needs.

  • If your child has needs or behaviors that are not compatible with our setting, we’ll let you know upfront and may recommend other programs.
  • Our Assistant Principal reviews every intake form before approving the next step.

Honesty is critical—misrepresenting your child’s support needs or behaviors may result in being screened out later.

Step 2 – Tour, Parent Interview, & Student Screening

If your child passes the intake screening, you will be invited for a required tour. Both the parent and child must attend.

  • During the visit, we observe the child in-person to help determine whether to proceed to the next step. This is a screening opportunity—if concerns arise during the tour, we may determine that we are not a good fit and will refer you to other options.
  • During the tour, you will view a typical classroom and see our staff, students, and campus operations on a typical school day. The principal or assistant principal will also answer any questions and gather more information about you and your child.
  • If your child appears to be a potential fit, you’ll be offered a tentative seat and an assessment appointment.

Even at this stage, we may decline to move forward if we observe that the child’s needs are not compatible with our classrooms or staffing model.

Step 3: Student Assessment (Child Only)

In the final step, your child will participate in a 45-minute to one-hour assessment session without you in the room. You’ll remain on-site while our staff interact with your child in an academic setting, placing light demands to observe behavior, engagement, and support needs.

  • This is when we often discover important information that wasn’t evident earlier.
  • During this visit, we will get an estimate of your child’s working level in math and language arts, and screen them for communication, mobility, behavior and social-emotional functioning.
  • If the student exhibits aggression, elopement, dysregulation, or other high-support behaviors, it may change whether we can serve them—especially if our supportive classrooms are already full.

Note - Even if we have space in one classroom type, we may not have space in the right type of classroom based on your child’s profile.

If your child is determined to be eligible for enrollment you will be notified in writing following the assessment. If you would like to proceed, we will let you know what documents and information we need and initiate the enrollment process.

Next Steps

Once a child is accepted, you’ll receive an enrollment packet and a list of documents needed for the student’s cumulative file. Students may begin attending only after all required paperwork is submitted.

At that time, you’ll also receive a tuition summary showing your total cost after any Step-Up scholarship contributions and financial hardship adjustments. Your signed tuition agreement confirms your intent to enroll and accept financial responsibility.

Please note: All new enrollments begin with a two-week trial period. This allows both the school and family to ensure the placement is a good fit. If either party decides to end enrollment within the first 10 school days, all tuition—both out-of-pocket and scholarship funds—will be refunded. After that point, refunds follow our standard withdrawal policy.
