Career Program

At Life Skills Academy, our mission is to empower middle and high school students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences they need to thrive in the workforce. Here’s how we guide our students through their journey:

Middle School Program

  • On-the-Job Training (OJT): Students get a taste of the professional world with in-school OJT, learning the ropes of various careers.
  • Career Research & Matching: We help students discover their passions and align them with potential career paths.
  • Pre-Employment Training: Our classroom training covers essential entry-level job skills, setting the foundation for future success.

High School Program - Vocational Rehabilitation Star Program

  • Career Exploration: Students delve deeper into career options, building a personalized 4-year transition plan based on their unique skills, interests, and values.
  • Work Readiness Training: A comprehensive 20-hour program prepares students for the expectations and responsibilities of the workplace.
  • Work-Based Learning Experiences (WBLE): Each year, students engage in 2-3 WBLEs, gaining hands-on experience in various fields.

Additional Opportunities

  • VR Summer Camp & Work Training: Beyond the classroom, students can participate in vocational rehabilitation summer camps and work training programs.
  • Transition to Graduation: As students near graduation, we focus on identifying suitable career fields, offering targeted WBLEs and internships.
  • Certifications & Post-Secondary Preparation: We provide education and training for certifications in chosen fields or facilitate admission into post-secondary programs for further career preparation.
  • Job Shadowing / Peer Mentorship Programs: Through Vocational Rehabilitation, students will have an opportunity to learn from employers and mentors as they prepare to graduate from high school and either pursue post-secondary educational and training programs or to directly enter the workforce upon graduation.

Dual Enrollment & Scholarships

  • Dual Enrollment: Eligible students can earn college credits while still in high school.
  • Scholarship Assistance: Our team assists students in finding and applying for scholarships to support their educational journey.
