At Life Skills Academy, our classrooms are diverse and unique due to the nature of our student body. As we typically have only one classroom per age level, we strive to gather detailed information about each prospective student to ensure compatibility with our programs. We ask all families who are interested in enrolling to follow this process:
Call our main campus at (863) 800-0755 or visit us in person at 515 East Haines Blvd, Lake Alfred to provide basic information about your child and schedule a meeting with the principal and tour of the school.
Visit our main campus or our high school campus (depending on the age of your child) to view a typical classroom and see our staff, students, and campus operations on a typical school day. During this visit, the principal will also answer any questions and gather more information about you and your child. We ask that you bring your child so that we may screen them for suitability for our school.
If your child is determined to be eligible for enrollment and you would like to proceed, we will schedule a formal assessment, lasting approximately 1-2 hours. During this visit, we will get an estimate of your child’s working level in math and language arts, and screen them for communication, mobility, behavior and social-emotional functioning.
Following the assessment, you will be informed if there is an available spot in an appropriate classroom or if your child will be placed on a wait-list. If space is available and you decide to enroll your child immediately, you will be given an enrollment packet and a list of documents we require for the student’s cumulative file. New students can begin attending school only after all required documents have been submitted.
This is the final step before a new student can begin attending school at Life Skills Academy. During this meeting, you will learn what your child’s total annual tuition will be, including out-of-pocket cost, Step-Up scholarship contribution and any adjustment due to financial hardship. Enrollment is considered complete after your sign your child’s tuition agreement, indicating your commitment to pay whatever out-of-pocket cost remains after scholarship contributions and adjustment for financial hardship.
We understand that it can be upsetting and inconvenient when a child is dismissed from their school. Our enrollment process is lengthy and thorough so we can identify children who will not thrive at our school before they are enrolled. However despite our best efforts, we sometimes aren’t able to anticipate issues that will prevent a student’s success. For this reason, we have a 2-week trial period during which the school and the family may continue to assess the suitability of the child’s placement.
If, during this time frame, either the family or the school choose to sever the tuition agreement and end the student’s enrollment, Life Skills Academy will refund the full amount of both scholarship and out of pocket tuition payments. After the 10th school day following the student’s first day of attendance, tuition payments made through scholarship funds are not refundable. Out-of-pocket tuition payments may be refunded on a prorated basis, subject to compliance with the withdrawal policy and departure on good terms.
